We all know what a food chain and food webs are. A food web is a diagram that consists of many overlapping food chains. A food chain is a representation of a series of events in which food energy and matter are transferred from one organism to another. They consist of producers, consumers, and decomposers. A producer is an organism that is able to make its own food by using a source of energy to turn simple raw materials into food. A consumer is an organism that cannot make its own food. A consumer can either be a herbivore, carnivore, or an omnivore. A herbivore is an animal that only eats plants or a primary consumer. A carnivore is an animal that only eats meat or a secondary consumer. An omnivore is an animal that eats plants and meat or a tertiary consumer. Finally a decomposer is an organism that breaks down bodies of dead organisms into simpler substances that give nutrients to the producers.
I found this website where you can make your own food web: http://www.vtaide.com/png/foodweb.htm. It is very interesting. You should try it out.
On the picture above, I made a food chain that consists of a rare animal, the anteater.
My opinion of this topic is that food chains and food webs are very important for scientists to know about because everything in the world, even an unknown thing, is in a food chain or web. These chains and webs can help scientists figure out why different things are getting extinct and why other things have been living for many centuries. Food webs and food chain can be very helpful
